Surviving the winter with your Windgoo E-Bike, our tips!

De winter overleven met je Windgoo E-Bike, onze tips!

Summer is over and it's getting really cold again. Cruising in the sun, the warm wind in your hair, and making nice stops for an ice cream are no longer an option. But the lifespan and range of your E-Bike and battery also need due attention in winter. We have a few useful tips for you to help your Windgoo and yourself get through the winter!

  1. Keep cycling!

The range (the distance the battery can cover) of our Windgoo products has been tested under more favorable conditions. This means 20 degrees Celsius, no wind, a flat road, correct tire pressure, rider weight of about 75 kilos, and a new battery. This range is therefore influenced by many factors, including the weather. Wind, rain, sun, and cold all affect this range. We can give you one tip for winter: keep cycling!
For the battery, it's best to stay in shape – you do this by continuing to use it regularly.
  1. Store the battery at room temperature

The battery is best maintained at temperatures between 10 and 20 degrees Celsius. Do not store it in the garage or shed, but keep it in a dry area in your home. Only place the battery back in the E-Bike just before you start riding. For a Windgoo without a removable battery, it's best to keep your entire E-Bike at room temperature.
  1. Thaw it out :)

Only connect your battery to the charger once it has reached 'room temperature', so not immediately after coming in from the cold outdoors. Just thaw those 'cold fingers' with a cup of hot chocolate, as we do after a winter walk.
  1. Check the battery for draining

If you don't use your Windgoo over the winter, make sure it's stored with about 50% battery status. Regularly check if it hasn't drained, which can happen in the cold, and recharge it if necessary.
  1. Clean clean clean

Keep your chain clean and well-greased. The same applies to your frame. It is also wise to slightly lower your tire pressure for more grip on snowy and slippery roads.
  1. Safety first!

Always wear a helmet! Especially when you go out in the cold. There are thin beanies available that you can wear perfectly under your Windgoo bike helmet. Warmth is important, but safety is paramount!
  1. Cover up

If you park your Windgoo in a bike shed or elsewhere outdoors, buy a nice cover to put over your E-Bike when it's parked. This ensures it cools down a little less and you keep it in more optimal condition.
  1. Layers!

Layers layers layers. We gave this tip in the summer, but it's also indispensable in winter. Layers help you retain as much warmth as possible. Also consider clothing with good reflective strips to keep yourself as visible as possible on dark days.
